To mark the 20th anniversary of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, Peace Brigades International is championing the nomination of the global community of Human Rights Defenders for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. The award would mark a world first, moving away from the celebration of individuals towards a recognition that community itself is integral to the defence of peace and human rights. The Alliance for Lawyers at Risk strongly supports this nomination and has written to the Nobel Committee to express it support.
